These standards guide reporting, editing, labeling, and corrections at Daily Core News. They are intended to help readers understand how we make editorial decisions and how to hold us accountable.
Accuracy and verification
We seek to verify material facts before publication using direct records, official documents, firsthand reporting, subject-matter expertise, or multiple credible sources as appropriate. The level of verification should match the seriousness of the claim. When information is developing, we identify what is preliminary and update coverage as reliable details emerge.
Sourcing and attribution
Readers should be able to understand where important information came from. We attribute reporting, data, quotations, photographs, and outside analysis. Links may be provided when they help readers examine a primary source or relevant context. We do not present another publication's original reporting as our own.
Anonymous sources
Anonymous sourcing should be used only when the information has clear public value, the source faces a legitimate risk from being identified, and the information cannot reasonably be obtained on the record. We describe the source's basis of knowledge as fully as safety allows and independently verify important claims whenever possible.
Fairness and the right to respond
Fairness does not require giving every claim equal weight. It requires relevant context, accurate characterization, and a genuine effort to understand significant perspectives. People or organizations facing substantial criticism should normally have a reasonable opportunity to respond before publication.
Headlines, images, and context
Headlines, excerpts, thumbnails, social posts, and alerts should accurately represent the underlying article. We avoid clickbait, deceptive omissions, and images that create a materially false impression. File photos and illustrations should be identified when their nature may not be obvious.
Opinion, analysis, and sponsored content
News, analysis, opinion, and paid material should be distinguishable. Opinion reflects the argument of the named writer. Analysis uses reported facts to explain meaning or consequences. Sponsored or partner-funded material must carry a prominent disclosure and must not be presented as independent reporting.
Conflicts of interest
Contributors should disclose financial, family, political, or personal interests that could reasonably raise questions about their work. When a conflict cannot be managed through disclosure or reassignment, the contributor should not cover the subject.
Artificial intelligence and automation
Automated tools may assist with research organization, transcription, translation, formatting, headline options, or other production tasks. They must not be treated as a source of fact. Material produced with automated assistance should be reviewed for accuracy, originality, context, bias, and rights concerns by a responsible editor before publication. We do not knowingly publish fabricated quotations, sources, events, or images as authentic reporting.
Privacy, safety, and harm
Public interest is weighed against unnecessary harm. We take particular care with minors, victims, private individuals, medical details, graphic material, precise locations that could create danger, and personal information that is not necessary to the story.
Corrections and updates
Factual errors should be corrected promptly and proportionately. Material corrections receive a visible note explaining the change. Routine spelling, grammar, or formatting fixes that do not alter meaning may be made without a note. See the full Corrections Policy.
